Submission Guidelines

General:

Our submissions window is open from September 15th through January 15th. It is our intention to respond to all submissions by mid-February. If you haven't heard from us by March, please query.

We will only be accepting submissions through our Submittable page. We will not respond to any submissions sent outside of our submissions window or via any method other than our Submittable page.

Send us writing that dazzles, devastates, challenges, motivates, lingers, wanders, wonders, warps, wounds. We want to read your fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and anything that exists between and beyond.

Fiction and Nonfiction includes: flash fiction, short stories, novel excerpts, essays, memoir, and micro nonfiction. While we will consider longer works, we prefer submissions to be under 5,000 words and/or 10 pages or fewer.

Poetry and Visual Poetry: We prefer that you send us no more than five poems with a maximum of 10 pages. At this time we are only able to consider visual poetry that is in black & white or grayscale.

Hybrid works or other literary styles including mixed genre, short plays, non-categorizable works, etc. We prefer submissions to be under 5,000 words and/or 10 pages or fewer.

Please start each piece on its own page.

Please submit work in a .doc or .docx file. If formatting is important to your piece, you may also submit a PDF file for our review.

Please submit work using Times New Roman or a comparable, legible font, standard font sizing.

Please only submit once per genre per reading period.

If you submit work that is *slightly* over our submission guidelines, we won't be mad, but please remember and respect that we are a small team with limited time.

We do not accept previously published work. This includes work published on personal websites or blogs. We are unable at this time to accept translations or works entirely in other languages. We do not accept reviews, interviews, critical/academic writing, or articles.

We will not accept work that is homophobic, misogynistic, racist, transphobic, xenophobic, or otherwise hateful. We will not tolerate work that perpetuates negative stereotypes.

Our submission fee is $3. If this amount causes financial hardship, please use our Contact Form to reach out.

While it is not required, we suggest purchasing a copy of one of our issues to get a sense of our aesthetic, as well as to support a small, women-operated business.

We do not require a cover letter and our submissions are not blind. We would appreciate that your name and best contact information appear on your submission.

Simultaneous submissions are welcome. We ask that you withdraw your submission immediately if it is accepted elsewhere; if we accept your work, please withdraw it from consideration elsewhere.

If your work has been published by The Champagne Room, please wait two submission periods before submitting again.

We are unable to pay contributors at this time, however, all contributors will receive one free copy of the issue in which their work appears.

If accepted, we will ask for First North American Serial Rights to your work. The copyright reverts back to the author upon publication, but please acknowledge The Champagne Room if the work is published as part of a book or reprinted elsewhere.

If you have any further questions about the submissions process, please send us a message via our Contact Form and we will do our best to respond within 5-10 business days.

If you are interested in any and all of The Champagne Room's updates, including future submissions periods, please consider subscribing to our Newsletter here.
