Submission Guidelines
General:
Our submissions window is open from January 15th through April 15th. It is our intention to respond to all submissions within two months of the submission deadline. If you haven't heard from us by then, please query.

Submissions can be sent to editors.champagneroom@gmail.com with the genre of your piece and the submission period as the subject line. (Example: "NONFICTION, 2024)

We do not require a cover letter; a quick hello that includes your name and the title of your piece will suffice.
What We Are Looking For
We want to read your fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and anything that exists between and beyond. A great way to get an idea of the kind of work we look for is to read an issue. Copies are available here.

Fiction and Nonfiction (short stories, novel excerpts, essays, and memoir): Submissions should be under 3,500 words.

Poetry and Visual Poetry: Submissions should be no more than five poems with a maximum of 10 pages. At this time we are only able to consider visual poetry that is in black & white or grayscale.

Hybrid works or other literary styles (mixed genre, short plays, non-categorizable works, etc.): Submissions should be under 3,500 words.

Please start each piece on its own page.

Please submit work in a .doc or .docx file. For all Poetry, Visual Poetry, and Hybrid works, please additionally submit a PDF file for our review to ensure formatting.
Please submit work using Times New Roman with 12pt font.

Please only submit once per genre per reading period.

We do not accept updates or changes to submissions. If your work is accepted, you will have the opportunity to make edits to the selected piece.

We do not accept previously published work. This includes work published on personal websites or blogs.
We are unable at this time to accept translations or works entirely in other languages.
We do not accept flash fiction, reviews, interviews, critical/academic writing, or articles.

We will not accept work that is homophobic, misogynistic, racist, transphobic, xenophobic, or otherwise hateful. We will not tolerate work that perpetuates negative stereotypes.

Submissions that do not meet the above guidelines will be rejected without being read.
Additional Information
While it is not required, we suggest purchasing a copy of one of our issues to get a sense of our aesthetic, as well as to support a small, women-operated business.

Simultaneous submissions are welcome. We ask that you withdraw your submission immediately if it is accepted elsewhere.
If we accept your work, please withdraw it from consideration elsewhere.
Acceptance
If your work has been published by The Champagne Room, please wait two submission periods before submitting again.

We are unable to pay contributors at this time, however, all contributors will receive one free copy of the issue in which their work appears.
If accepted, we will ask for First North American Serial Rights to your work. The copyright reverts back to the author upon publication, but please acknowledge The Champagne Room if the work is published as part of a book or reprinted elsewhere.

If you have any further questions about the submissions process, please send us a message via our Contact Form and we will do our best to respond within 5-10 business days.
